On April 15, 2014 we launched the fourth Ella Baker Day. It took place at Coastal Carolina University.

Ella Baker & Her Work (Poster Presentations)
Posters on the work of Ella Baker will be presented and discussed on Prince Lawn during the afternoon. Specifically, posters will address Baker’s work with the NAACP, SCLC, SNCC, In Friendship, Young Negroes Cooperative League, Crusade for Citizenship, Commission on School Integration of NYC, Southern Conference Educational Fund, and liberation movements of Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Puerto Rico. An additional poster will also address the philosophy and approach of Ella Baker.

The Legacy of Ella Baker: A Panel Discussion
This panel will address the legacy of Ella Baker and what it means to follow in her footsteps. Panelists will also address their struggles and successes in their own activist work, particularly as women of color.

Charley Bovill
CCU student and Vice-President of P.E.A.C.E.
Charley Butler is currently a junior at Coastal Carolina University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.Charley is originally from Greenville, SC but moved to Conway, Sc in hopes of working closely businesses and organizations reaching out to youth. She hopes to one day become an executive director of a non-profit organization. Charley is currently working as an after school teacher where she works closely with elementary school children in efforts of providing them a safe place outside of school,while still increasing their learning experience and creativity. In addition to this she is the Vice President of an active organization on campus called the P.E.A.C.E Club (Performers Emerging Above Circumstances to Excel). With this position she is able to lead fellow members and help implement ideas that will reach out to the local college community. This is done by giving a platform for student to express themselves freely through spoken word, song and other creative aspects.As she continues her education, she hopes to truly inspire young women and others through her love for spoken word and poetry.
Barbara Blain-Olds
Attorney, member of City Council, and Head of River Reads
Attorney Barbara Jo Blain-Olds is a native of Conway, and has been involved in public service her entire adult life. She was sworn in on January, 9, 2012, having previously served on city council from 1993 – 1998, and having acted as Mayor Pro Tem in 1996. Ms. Blain-Olds served four years as Conway's assistant city administrator. In January 2011, she founded Community Legal Services, a non-traditional private law office providing legal services to low and moderate-income families. She is also the staff attorney for COAST Regional Transportation Authority.
Ms. Blain-Olds received a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in December 2000, and was sworn into the S. C. Bar Association in May 2001. She has held positions as an asst. public defender with the Horry County Public Defender, staff attorney with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and asst. solicitor with the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor.
Ms. Blain-Olds also holds Masters and Bachelors degrees from the University of South Carolina in Education and Sociology respectively, and is a graduate of the Inaugural Waccamaw Class of the American Leadership Forum, Leadership South Carolina, Leadership Grand Strand and the Municipal Elected Officials Institute of Government. She currently serves on the boards of PALM Motor Sports School, the Horry County Historical Society, the Regional Education Center, and is the past leader of Girl Scout Troop 88.
Ms. Blain-Olds is the 2011 recipient of Leadership Grand Strand's Ann Debock Leadership Award, the 2010 Girl Scouts of Eastern S.C.'s Mary Brewer Women of Distinction Award, the 2009 Zonta International Gold Star Award, the 2009 Omega Psi Phi Community Service award, and the 2009 NAACP Leadership Award.
Ms. Blain-Olds is the widow of Jesse L. Olds, Jr., and has one adult son, Craigon Lennon. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she is a Youth Usher leader.

Tamara Jackson
CCU student and Vice President of CCU Chapter of NAACP
Jackson is a Senior Political Science major from Loris, SC. She has been involved with Leadership Challenge and NAACP for 3 1/2 years. In NAACP, Jackson served as the Secretary for the 2012-2013 school year and is now the current Vice President. One of the issues that NAACP has been tackling is hate crimes and laws that legally allow discrimination, such as the Stand Your Ground self-defense law.
Lula Tucker
CCU student and Women of Color organization President
Lula Tucker is a senior psychology major at Coastal Carolina University. She is the President of Coastal Carolina's Women of Color, initiative for minority women. Lula is also the Captain of Coastal's favorite Dance team, Teal Temptation and an active member of leadership Challenge. She graduate's this Spring and plans to work as a behavioral therapist.
